Another great activity the Coop Concept will be doing this summer is picnic table building, similar to the tables they built for Chambers Elementary School!
Picnic tables are a large undertaking for one person. It can be done, however with multiple people. The load is lessened with many people doing different tasks.
There are innumerable things needed to complete this project, like wood, screws, and bolts, along with tools like different saws and an orbital sander.
Lowe’s says, “Outdoor dining doesn’t have to be run-of-the-mill. Turn a plain picnic table into a fancy dining table with a custom trellis, lighting, built-in serving area and greenery to create ambiance.” There are many ways to spice up a simple picnic table.
The first step is to gather all materials, then measure and cut the wood. Then it is time to actually build the picnic tabletop. The 4th step is to trim and clamp the legs. 5th step is to attach table legs, then attach bench supports. The angle braces, which are the next step, are crucial, as it allows the table to be more secure and safe. Then building and attaching the actual benches is the second to last step. The final step is to stain and sand the table.
With many people doing multiple tasks, creating a picnic table is still a great undertaking, however it is significantly easier. The Coop Concept will be creating these tables and donating them to public places and non profits, for better community engagement.
The Coop Concept’s plans for the summer include making bird houses to sell, creating bee motels, and raised garden beds/boxes for the community!
