Volunteer Role: Youth Design Team Mentor/Assistant

About the Program:
The Youth Design Team, hosted by The COOP Concept, is an 8-month program providing hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture, light carpentry, and artistic design for youth aged 14-18. Participants engage in a variety of projects, including:
-Maintaining garden infrastructure at Chambers Elementary School.
-Designing and creating artistic community spaces.
-Mass-producing ceramics, earrings, linocut prints, and woodwork products.
-Participating in youth empowerment and educational workshops.
Volunteer Opportunity:
We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable adult volunteers to work alongside our youth participants and staff, providing mentorship and support. As a volunteer, you will contribute to a positive and enriching learning environment, helping youth develop valuable skills and a sense of community.
Responsibilities
- Assist youth participants in completing project tasks, including gardening, carpentry, and artistic creation.
- Provide guidance and support in using tools and materials safely and effectively.
- Offer mentorship and encouragement, fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere.
- Help maintain a safe and organized workspace.
- Assist staff with program logistics and activities.
- Participate in and support educational workshops and community initiatives.
- Be a positive role model.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Experience working with youth (preferred).
Interest in gardening, carpentry, art, or community development.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
Ability to work collaboratively1 with youth and staff.
Reliability and punctuality.
A willingness to learn.
Time Commitment:
Saturdays, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM, from October 9, 2024, to May 31, 2025.
Flexible scheduling options may be available.
