About the event
In this creative reuse workshop, youth will explore sustainable design and fiber art while earning volunteer hours and giving back to the community. Participants will transform donated and reclaimed old t-shirts into handmade yarn, then use their yarn to create coasters and wall art projects through weaving, wrapping, and textile-based techniques.
All items created during the workshop will be donated to Fly The COOP, Inc. and sold at local markets to support the organization’s mission. Proceeds directly fund youth scholarships, paid internships, and community projects in partnership with local schools and non-profits.
No fiber arts experience is needed. This workshop encourages creativity, problem-solving, and environmental awareness while showing youth how everyday materials can be reimagined into meaningful, functional art.
Youth will earn volunteer hours while:
· Learning how to repurpose t-shirts into continuous yarn
· Exploring basic fiber art techniques like weaving and wrapping
